Meet A NYFA Artist: Carol Golemboski
|
NYFA
talks to Carol Golemboski (NYFA Fellow in Photography, 2002) about her new interactive artist’s book for the iPad,
Psychometry, based on her photographic series of the same name.
"The pictures in Psychometry are designed to be
mysterious, foreboding and ironic. I wanted the interactive book to have
a little bit more whimsy and to be as much about the creative process
as the images themselves."
Psychometry recently won the "Outstanding E-Book Achievement" award from the Independent Publisher Book Awards. Congrats, Carol!

Resource Exchange), a network of local artists, artisans and cultural

El Puente. New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) will provide a grant workshop
“Elements of a Proposal” for artists from all disciplines.
The workshop will be translated for Spanish-speaking artists.

Registration: Online registration always takes place two weeks prior to

some feedback? Come to NYFA's Doctor's Hours for individual, 20-minute
one-on-one consultations with local curators, critics and gallerists.
Get practical and professional advice in person
from one or more arts professionals. Each appointment is $25, with a
three appointment limit and the opportunity to share your work will be
provided.

Alexandra Pacula (NYFA Fellow in Painting, 2010) is currently in a two-person show
with Gary Ruddell at Gallery Henoch in Chelsea through May 25th.
Emily Barletta (NYFA Fellow in Crafts, 2009) is participating in the group exhibition
Repetition and Ritual: New Sculpture in Fiber at the Hudgens Center for the Arts’
Fowler Gallery in Duluth, Georgia through May 25th.
Kelly Merchant (NYFA Mark Artist 2011, Woodstock) has a solo photography exhibition,
The Secret Language of Flowers, at Joyce Goldstein Gallery in Chatham,
New York through May 18th.
Cui Fei (NYFA Fellow in Crafts, 2007) has a solo show,
Tracing the Origin, at Chambers Fine Art in Manhattan through June
7, 2013.
Fred Ho (NYFA Fellow in Music Composition, 1989, 1994 and 2004) wrote the music, concept and script for the music/theater piece
Deadly She-Wolf Assassin at Armageddon, playing May 16 through June 2 at
La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theatre in Manhattan.
Laura Pruden
(Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp Participant, 2011) will be appearing
in the New York City production of “Listen To Your Mother,” a 24-city
series of live readings in honor of Mother’s
Day, on May 12th at Symphony Space in New York City. Laura discusses the
show here.

Rockaway Barrier Beautification Project
solicits proposals for an initiative to paint the jersey barriers which
will be installed to protect pedestrians and bicyclists on Shore Front
Parkway in New York City. Selected artists will receive a $2,000
honorarium and $500 stipend to complete and implement the design and
cover necessary materials.

Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts Curatorial Proposals
are being accepted for the 2014-2015 exhibition
schedule for the Museum's main gallery in Brooklyn on the following
themes: women’s rights, the economy and capitalism, and environmental
justice. From a competitive application process, MoCADA selects three
exhibition proposals for further development each
year.

American Numismatic Association Art of Engraving Scholarship supports 6 students’ attendance at ANA’s 2013 Summer
Seminar, June 22-28, 2013
in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Selected students will explore the
ancient art of hand die engraving as well as modern processes currently
used to create coins and medals. The scholarship includes tuition,
lodging and meals for one
week and up to $400 reimbursement for transportation costs.

Queens Museum Studio Program
provides visual artists with subsidized workspace and public visibility
in the museum’s
new studio wing in Queens, New York. In designating permanent real
estate to the long-term development of new work on-site, as well as to
creating a community of artists, the Queens Museum aims to promote
artists’ creative process and professional development.

Watermill Center Artist Residency Program
invites artists of all disciplines to take up residence at The
Watermill
Center in Water Mill, NY to create collaborative works that critically
investigate, challenge, and extend the existing norms of performance
practice. It gives young artists the opportunity to live and work at The
Watermill Center as a home to create and develop
new work. $10 application fee.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Asian American Arts Alliance
and the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) present
Iva:The Myth of Tokyo Rose,
Allegiance on Trial at the Asia Society on May 16th and 17th. Thursday’s performance will be followed by an exclusive reception with members of the cast, crew, and special guests. The Friday performance and talk back will be geared toward high school and college
students.
